It’s really hard for people to accept they can go back to something when they think they ruined it. I feel like people throw out all progress when they slip up on one thing. But it’s never like that for God. There’s this line in “As You Find Me” by Hillsong United that goes, “Your love’s too good to leave me here.” This whole song holds a lot of spiritual truths and there are other lines that are my favorite. But this one always sticks out to me. Let’s talk about how God wants us to come to Him no matter what. But also wants to make us better.
You are Not Hard to Love
God made you. The Bible has many instances of God being aware of everyone He created before they were born. (Jeremiah 1:5 for example) We were not a surprise to God. Humans like to sell themselves short. We like to ask if we’re even worthy when God had us planned before birth. God has loved you and will continue loving you, regardless of how you think He sees you. Don’t give in to the lies of your mind that you’re hard to love. The creator of the universe made you and loves you and that’s the best news.
He Accepts Us as We are But Won’t Let Us Stay as We are
I feel like a big misconception is that we get to stay the same way we always were because God accepted us that way. When we start going to church, God doesn’t expect us to be perfect on the first go. God would rather us come in our mess and bring it to Him. He would rather deal with it than having us dig a hole and stay by ourselves. But the thing is that God wants us to grow and reflect Him more over time. Most of the time this happens naturally. When you learn more of God and starting putting His teaching to use, you start doing the “bad” things less.
The thing is to not abuse His love. Don’t think that you have a free pass to sin because you know God will forgive you. Growing with God will help you to want to show Him through your actions. He wants us to be clean and learn to be better. Don’t get stuck in feeling that there’s no point in changing. Yes, He accepts you however you are but He also wants you to be a better version of yourself and He will help you get there.
He’s Not Going to Leave You
But the good thing about God is that He doesn’t pressure or rush us. If you’ve ever heard “Reckless Love” by Cory Asbury then you know God won’t leave you. And same goes for this lyric in “As You Find Me.” Print this lyric everywhere, “Your love’s too good to leave me here.” If there’s an example of loyalty it’s God. You can mess up on your walk with God and He will still welcome you back with arms wide open.
What’s a song lyric that speaks to you?
