It’s kind of funny because figuring out what to do next or in our lives is something we ask God all the time. I know I do. I’m always asking God for guidance and to show me what to do next. But lately, I’m realizing it’s less about knowing the next step but more of the fear of trusting God. Most of the time He has already spoken but we just don’t want to hear because we want it to be easy.
I often ask God to show me His plans for me. It’s so often that it almost seems like that’s all I pray for. But the thing is, that I can get direction and even hear messages that open my eyes yet I keep asking. Why is that? Because a lot of what God is speaking is to trust Him. So why is trusting God so hard?
We are humans that want things easy. God can spell out the path for our lives but if it requires us to step out in blind faith, we get scared. We keep asking God for guidance not because we need it but because we think He’s going to give us an easier path. We don’t want to hear the hard things. We don’t want to hear that we have to work for the things God promised. But that’s what God wants because we need to trust that He will do it.
If God gives us things easy, it becomes a thing we expect instead of learning to rely on Him. Is trusting God hard? Absolutely because we can’t see the overall picture. But if He’s the one leading us, we need to listen instead of waiting and asking for another route.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
