If you haven’t noticed, I love Disney. So when I saw that Bob Iger was releasing a book, I made sure to buy it. I’m obviously happy with Disney taking my money. (This is a joke, but you know) But I was really intrigued to read this book. It’s a leadership book and I was interested to see what Bob Iger would say. So let’s review The Ride of a Lifetime by Robert Iger.

About the Book
The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company focuses on Bob Iger’s journey and leadership as CEO of Disney. It’s meant to be a collection of leadership lessons that anyone can use in their careers. It takes a look at many big points of Disney’s journey in the last few years like the acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and Fox.
My Thoughts
He says it’s not a memoir but it sort of feels like one. It’s not a bad thing though, I enjoyed hearing about his life journey. One of my favorite things is just seeing how much the industry has changed over the years. No matter how much one thing works, it’s so important to “innovate or die.” Learning about Disney’s acquisitions and a lot of the behind the scenes situations were so entertaining to read. I do think his writing got a bit dry at times. But I think it helps so you don’t get too lost since there’s a lot of people with similar names and situations. I also think he shied away from some topics and alludes to situations that he doesn’t dive into and all that just made me more curious.
As a Disney fan, I appreciate the business side of it. The lessons he shares are simple yet effective that I know I can apply it to my life. It’s a solid book and I finished it in just a few days because I was curious to see how everything happened.
Overall, I really did like the book and if you’re a Disney fan or just someone curious how a CEO from a big business does things, this book is for you.
