Let’s be honest, I’ve been listening to Christmas music all year long. That’s where you’ll definitely find me the next few months. But of course, before I fully dive in, there’s some music I discovered this month.

In the Heights

Before Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda made In the Heights. I’ve listened to the soundtrack before and liked it. But for some reason I decided to take another listen to it and grown to love it. I love the mix of Spanish and it’s a musical about just living life within the culture of Washington Heights. It’s a fun listen because it’s easy to relate and it just shows what happens in regular life in the heights.

Hillsong | The Peace Project

Let me talk about Christmas music for a second. Hillsong came out with a Christmas album this month and it’s amazing! They do a lot of the classics but give it a huge twist so they feel fresh. The song “Seasons” is beautiful and they “Silent Night” with “Saviour King” and it’s amazing. It’s going to be on repeat for the next couple of months.

Honorable Mentions

Another Lin-Manuel Miranda gem that I just discovered is 21 Chump Street, specifically “What the Heck I Gotta Do?” That song is so catchy and has been stuck in my head for days. If you guys don’t already know I’m a huge fan of Jordan Fisher. Fun fact: He left Hamilton exactly 3 days before I saw it in New York. I’m low key bitter. But anyway, he has a new song called “Mess” and it’s a bop. I have such high hopes for this kid, he’s going to be great y’all.

September came and went. It’s so weird that we are now entering the final three months of 2017! I’m excited but it’s still so crazy to think about. I might put up my Christmas tree already because why not? But before then, here’s September in review.

Lifestyle

– So I fell in love with Hourglass’ Vanish Stick foundation. I’ve had this but never really used it. But since I’m trying to use up all my current makeup, I tried it and it’s so good! It blends out smooth and it’s so heavy.

– California’s weather has been a tease and it’s not completely cold yet. But I started wearing my Asos Chelsea boots and they’re amazing! If you’re a boot lover like me, Asos has amazing options.

A&E

– I’m a huge an of the Kingsman series and I completely enjoyed Kingsman: The Golden Circle. I typically don’t gravitate to these type of action movies, but these are so entertaining to watch!

– So I decided to watch a show that everyone has watched so I began with How I Met Your Mother. I’m barely on the first season so I don’t hate it but I am waiting for it to build up the story more.

– If you saw my review then you know that I saw Hamilton again, this time in LA. It was so good and I just fell in love with this musical all over again. I’ll be entering every lottery from now on.

Personal

– Yes, I am already planning Christmas presents! I actually want them to be really meaningful so I’m brainstorming things already to make sure I go through with it.

– I celebrated my half birthday this month! I can’t believe I am half way through my 24th year of life. It’s so crazy to think about.

Around the Web

– I love vlogs and one of my favorites is Morgan Yates Vlogs. She’s so chill and down to earth so it makes her fun and relatable to watch. I usually watch vlogs to destress from life. Her videos are filmed so well. Her recaps are some of the best.

– First off just a side note: I created socials just for my blog! See those on the sidebar. Since then I’ve been able to connect with more bloggers and I got to meet Deanna. She’s doing a 16 day self care challenge so check that out.

This month was definitely a blur for sure. A lot of the music I’m going to mention didn’t necessarily come out this month but it’s what I’ve been having on repeat. I kid you not, I might as well have my Christmas playlist going already. Here’s what’s currently playing for September.

Justin Bieber

Whether you like to admit it or not, Biebs makes some pretty catchy music. I listened to “Friends” the day it released and it’s definitely a song that you sing to at the top of your lungs. But guess what? I also finally listened to “Despacito.” You know what? I actually liked it. Cheers to you Justin Bieber for your music.

Dear Evan Hansen

I’ve been a fan of Dear Evan Hansen since it first came out but I’ve been playing it a lot more this month. A lot of it is because I’m bummed I will be missing Ben Platt in it but it’s truly a great musical and very inspiring! Plus Owl City did a cover of “Waving Through a Window” and it’s also so good.

Some Songs Here and There

We need to talk about John Mark McMillan and Sarah McMillan. I’ve briefly mentioned before how much I loved their song, “Glorious Things.” But seriously, they’re amazing. They wrote “King of My Heart” which is currently being covered by a lot of other bands. That song is my current favorite! Another song I’ve been playing a lot is “Glorious Day” by Passion. It’s truly just a feel good song.

A Lot Can Change in a Summer

A Lot Can Change in a Summer

My word for 2017 was redemption. At first I just wanted it to be a strong word. One I can look back on and be like, “yeah, what an amazing, strong year.” I thought it would be just simple things I would get redemption in. Like finally getting to prove myself at work or something. But God had other plans and this summer was wild.

Over on my YouTube channel, I wanted to create a second of everyday type video specifically for this summer. I was determined to make this the best summer ever and making sure I did cool new things. I thought it was just going to be a fun video, but it turned into something more.

Production-wise, I had no idea how much work goes into this, so props to all you guys that have done it for the whole year. I actually had to set a daily reminder so I wouldn’t forget to film something. But it also got hard on days where not much was going on and had to at least film something. It made me question if I actually wanted to do it. I’m glad I stuck it out. Let’s see if I do all year for 2018!

Let’s Get Deep

I don’t want this to be sappy or like I got some crazy epiphany of life but it did show me a lot of things. It showed me that God’s plans are better than my own. I didn’t end the summer the same way I started it. In just a few months, I discovered new passions, met new friends, got new experiences. It wasn’t a good summer because I was out partying it up, but it was good because I do a lot of growing.

Filming each day showed me that life is made up of little moments. Some seem so insignificant but they make up our life. It showed me that things change and it’s better to just go with the flow than trying to force things. I feel like one of the biggest things is that I learned to expect the unexpected. I’m a huge planner and it gave me a moment to just let go. This summer was great not because it was the funnest but I can see God redirecting my course. Nothing happened as I expected but it still made me happy in the end.

August in Review | ’17

August in Review | ’17

Oh man, this month was a wild one for me. Looking back it is hard to believe that so many things happened in this month. All good things. Life has changed and I’m excited to see what’s to come. But as I wait and see what my next moves will be, here’s August in review.

Lifestyle

– I’ve been really digging the no makeup makeup look. I mentioned this last month but I’ve been trying to wear less makeup but sadly my skin isn’t as clear to go free. I need to stock up on some items so let me know what’s the best products to achieve this look!

–  Y’all, I bought my first fall candle and I’m in love. Now I feel like I need to stock up and buy a whole bunch. Let me know where to get some affordable ones.

A&E

– I watched every Marvel movie in order and now I don’t know what to do with myself. Watching them in order (not release dates but according to the story timeline) made me understand so much. If you ever want to try it, it’s honestly fun! It will just take a couple of weeks because some of those movies are long!

– With that, I dived in to the world of Marvel TV shows and started watching The Defenders. Charlie Cox, who is Daredevil, is my new favorite actor. I am going to start watching Daredevil when I’m completely done with The Defenders, which is a great show by the way.

Personal

– This month I went back to my alma mater to participate in an alumni tradition welcoming new students. I only graduated a couple years ago but I feel like so much has changed! It was nice to reconnect with old friends and see where life is now. So crazy!

– I finished my first semester of grad school! I am so tired but fall semester starts soon so I’m still feeling overwhelmed. Send coffee.

Around the Web

– I love following people that write because I always need some inspiration so I followed Rafael Casal. This guy is wise and super creative in many ways.  I can’t believe I didn’t follow him sooner.
