My fashion Pinterest board is my most popular board. It started from me just finding cute outfits and pinning them for future reference. It’s interesting to try to scroll back to the start because I can see how I started liking different styles over time. But pinning things is just fun and lets you see all the cute outfits out there. Plus, you can start seeing patterns of what types of items you like and can begin trying them out.
Trying on Clothes
You never know how something looks until you try it on. I used to pick the same type of garment every time just because I knew it fit and didn’t have to try it on in the store. However, trying things on and seeing how they look will help to start picking new things. I was really into the jumpsuit trend but never got any. Until I stepped into a store and saw one I liked and tried it on. Things will be hit or miss. But trying on different things can help you get an idea of what works and start to style them with things you already own. Just try things on! It’s always fun too and can help you navigate through styles.
Don’t Fixate on One Inspo
If you know me (or read my blog), I love Alexa Chung. I wrote a whole post on how to dress like her. For as long as I can remember, she’s someone I always looked to for inspiration. But Alexa and I have completely different body types and options. There are a lot of things she wears that look cute but would not fit me the same. And that’s okay! Having inspiration is always a good thing. But don’t give in to comparison. Make their style work for you but don’t copy it and don’t pick items just because someone wore them if it doesn’t fit your body type needs.
Don’t Stick to One Trend
I like a lot of things. That’s one of the things that held me back when I was starting my closet. People categorize styles all the time and I didn’t want to get stuck with one style. You will gravitate to one style but don’t feel like that should limit you. I gravitate towards a more casual feel but ever so often I like the cutesy feel of wrap dresses and heels. It’s okay to mix and match. I feel that sticking to one style seems so high school. Try everything that makes you happy.
Just Have Fun
Clothes should be fun. I feel like trends right now are taken so seriously. People try to fit everything into categories. Yes, you will have a style that you will stick to. I have clothes I gravitate to. But I always like to try new things and throw stuff on. So have fun with clothes. The best way to figure out what you like is to try anything and everything.
