I tend to clean out my closet quite often. I have talked about how being a blogger feeds into our need to buy things even if we don’t need them. That’s how I end up buying more clothes than I need. This was a mess because my closet got full and there were a lot of things that I did not wear. I went through a massive cleaning of my whole room and knew I wanted to simplify my closet. Here are some easy ways to downsize your closet and have the clothes you actually want to wear.Need to clean our your closet? Here are 3 simple tips to help! Click To Tweet
I am currently on the journey to be fit and have an overall healthy lifestyle. This means my clothing is always at a limbo with things that fit and don’t fit. However, being honest will be great to clean out your closet. If something doesn’t fit now, toss it. If you have a drawer full of t-shirts that you’ve gotten free at college, toss them (or most because I know I keep a couple for lounging). Don’t keep items with the hope that you’ll wear it again. Chances are if you haven’t worn them now, you probably won’t. Take a Marie Kondo route, if it sparks joy, keep it, if it doesn’t say bye.
Go With the Seasons
I used to keep all my clothes in my closet regardless of what type they were. Sweaters, coats, shorts, you name it, they all lived together. I remodeled my room and got a clothing rack for the aesthetic, to be honest. However, picking out a few outfits to display helped me narrow down the things I actually like and wear. So now every season I change up the clothes on my clothing rack so I can do a mental inventory of what I have. But also helps me see what I need. For example, I have way too much winter clothes for someone who lives in California. Separating clothes by season helps a lot.
Create an Outfit Schedule
This can seem quite tedious. My sister told me about this and it’s helpful. By having a schedule for a week, month, etc. will also help visualize the clothes you actually wear. If you aren’t wearing it in a few weeks time, again, most likely you won’t be wearing it ever. By creating a schedule you put the clothes you actually want to wear into use but also if you needed to buy something, you have an idea of what that is and focus on buying that instead of buying a lot of clothes.
I hope these tips were helpful and will jumpstart your closet cleaning!
