Every Disney fans dream convention. D23 Expo has passed and Disney dropped a lot of new things and highlighted the classics. The D23 Expo happens every two years and every time it rolls around, the popularity grows. It sold out way ahead of time this year. D23 Expo is a wild time for every Disney fan because there is so much to see and news to follow. So here’s a D23 Recap ’19!
Disney+ came in and took us all by surprise. If anyone was skeptical about it before, they aren’t now. Disney+ will have every Disney movie and shows you can think of. From new shows like The Mandalorian and Wandavision to the new reboot of Lizzie McGuire, with Hilary Duff back on board, there is a lot the platform will have. DCOMs will also be on Disney+ as well as all the Star Wars movies and Marvel movies. Ewan McGregor is also back as Obi-Wan for a whole new series. Honestly, so much is going on there that it might be worth the subscription.
Disney usually announces its 2-year slot during D23. Although Marvel didn’t have their own panel this year, we did get tons of Marvel news. Black Panther 2 officially has a date for 2022. There was finally a look for The Externals with the full cast. And Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker unveiled its official poster. A lot of footage was shown during the panel. Some which was already shown at Comic-Con.
Other Movies Talked About
- Jungle Cruise
- Raya and the Last Dragon
- Frozen 2
- Black Widow
Parks and Resorts
For me, parks are actually my favorite thing to hear about, D23 is usually when they have the big news. The big changes are announced here. The rumor going into it was that Epcot was getting the most changes. I am disappointed there was no Tomorrowland updates but there was a lot of information to handle so let us jump into it.
The idea for a Marvel land was revealed by Disney a couple of years ago (I may be wrong but I think it was at the last expo) but this time they brought concept art! Avengers Campus is opening in California, Paris, and Hong Kong. For DCA, phase 1 will open in 2020 with the Spider-Man web shooter attraction. A Pym inspired restaurant and new meet and greets. Phase 2 will feature a new e-ticket attraction where you can board a quinjet to Wakanda and end up running into some trouble. This was by far my favorite announcement.
The big news was Epcot. This park is going to go through a lot. Epcot’s four neighborhoods: World Showcase, World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery will all have new offerings. Mary Poppins will join the United Kingdom pavilion with a new attraction. And a new nighttime spectacular, HarmonioUS, is slated to be the largest ever for Disney. Spaceship Earth will feature new scenes talking about storytelling, stemming away from the technology advances theme it had. World Nature will have a Moana inspired exploration trail where people can learn and play with water. The Mission: SPACE pavilion will be expanding to open a new restaurant, Space 220, which will open this winter.
Disneyland Gets a New Parade
Saying bye to Soundsational earlier this year left a gap in the midday entertainment slot. Magic Happens will be a brand new parade and will feature new units like a Moana and Coco float. I’m excited for more Coco in the parks. But I’m also wondering where Paint the Night is.
There was a lot more news announced so I just touched on a few main ones. There is a new cruise destination, a Disney Store partnership with Target, and so much more!
What Disney news are you looking forward to?
