Family, Tradition, and Food

Family, Tradition, and Food

Coming from a Mexican family, a lot of our traditions circle around food. Some of the best memories have happened around the dinner table. There’s nothing like family, tradition, and food.

One of my families favorite ingredients is La Lechera. When I say this goes on anything, I mean it! La Lechera is super easy to add in to any dish. It’s also super affordable. I get mine at Walmart and you can usually find a can in the baking isle.

Family, Tradition, and Food

There are a lot of things you can make with La Lechera! My family actually always keeps a can at the table because we can use it anyway. It’s one of those things that we have to have now. So there are a ton of recipes that just remind me of home.

One of my go to is so simple you can probably make it right now. My family loved going out so whether we were at the park or the beach, my mom would make us La Lechera sandwiches which is just bread drizzled (or drenched for me) with La Lechera. It’s such a delicious treat and it makes me think of home and all the memories we have in a car full of kids eating as we remembered our day.

But one of our absolute favorites is arroz con leche. The way my momma makes it is super easy to follow! You just need La Lechera, rice, piloncillo, and cinnamon.

You simply put some water in a pot and put in the piloncillo with some cinnamon. Put in the rice and let it all mix together. Finally, you add La Lechera and let it cook and serve when done!

Especially with the holidays coming up, my family loves arroz con leche because it’s such a yummy dessert and we can have it anytime! I love that I know this is one dessert that will always remind me of home.

My Everyday Favorite Dessert

My Everyday Favorite Dessert

Food is a way of life. I love when the seasons are changing and there’s so many dishes that get put back into my rotation. Thankfully Nestlé Media Crema is so versatile and easy to use that it can go on desserts, as well as main dishes. Let’s be real, when it’s chilly out the last thing you need is to go to the grocery store to buy an ingredient you missed. Nestlé Media Crema can be shelved and never spoils!

A big part of my family traditions deals with food. Mexican food has a wide variety of things you can make. For my family, we are huge lovers of desserts. Even before we are done with our main course, we are already asking what’s for dessert. Here’s my everyday favorite dessert that is super easy to make.

My Everyday Favorite Dessert

Fresas con Crema

Y’all, my favorite dessert of all time is fresas con crema. It’s sweet and savory and not too cold, which is perfect since the weather is getting chillier. But you can eat it year round because it’s just so good. With just one can of media crema you can make a batch that feeds up to four people. Here’s how you make it.

First, you mix the can of media crema, one half teaspoon of sugar, and 1/2 cup of sugar into a bowl.

My Everyday Favorite Dessert

After that you put it in the fridge to chill for four hours or all night depending on how thick you want the crema to get.

Once it’s ready, get your strawberries washed and cut into a separate dish. Drizzle the crema on top and mix it in and you’re done!

My Favorite Everyday Dessert

I usually add some whipped cream on top but that’s up to you. This recipe makes up to four servings so everyone can get a taste!

Fresas con crema are my go to dessert because it’s sweet and easy to make. Plus, media crema just makes every other meal easier to make too. Like my mom like putting it in her chiles rellenos. So there’s always a sweet or savory dish to make.

Why My Morning Coffee is Important to Me

Why My Morning Coffee is Important to Me

Between working full-time and going to grad school, life is pretty hectic. What makes it worse is that I am not a morning person whatsoever. Coffee is a for sure must. I have to have it in the mornings otherwise I won’t wake up. Or I’ll just be cranky for the rest of the day. Coffee is a glorious drink that does wonders, let’s be real.

McDonald’s McCafé coffee is great. McDonald’s is going to the next level and relaunching McCafé and giving it a whole new identity that will soon become your favorite espresso beverages. Nothing should come before your McCafé coffee. It’s super convenient and you get it for a value. The new espresso menu features Vanilla Cappuccino, Caramel Macchiato, Mocha both iced and hot, and the popular Pumpkin Spice Latte until the end of October so all your cravings will be satisfied.
Why My Morning Coffee is Important to Me

I have a long commute so I have to make sure I have my coffee in hand for the road. I’m also extremely quiet in the mornings because I just want to go back to sleep, to be honest. So usually having some coffee in me is important so I can actually face and engage with people. Plus, my days are usually long involving work, homework, and long drives. Coffee motivates me to get up and I reach for a second cup at lunch, to be honest.

My favorite drink is the Caramel Macchiato. The great thing about McCafé is that a small beverage is only $2, so you can easily incorporate that into your budget. Also, if you get the McDonald’s app when you buy 5 any size McCafé beverages, you can get one any sized McCafé beverage for free! Only valid from 1/18/17 through 12/31/17 so make sure to download the app as soon as possible! Registration is required and it’s only valid only at participating U.S. McDonald’s. A la carte only. Limited time only at participating McDonald’s. Cannot be combined with any other offer or any combo meal. ©2017 McDonald’s.

As sad as it is to admit, I don’t think I’m going to become a morning person anytime soon. Coffee is the only way I can adequately function throughout the day. Maybe it’s all the years I’ve been drinking caffeine but coffee is the most important thing in the morning. My day will drastically change if I don’t have a coffee cup in my hand by the time I’m at work. My love (and need) of coffee knows no bounds! Seriously, nothing comes before coffee.

Easy, Healthy On-the-Go Breakfast

Easy, Healthy On-the-Go Breakfast

There’s two things I need to work on: eating breakfast and choosing healthier alternatives. I’ve always just had my coffee and waited until lunch to eat. The thing about me is that I also get hangry. The struggle is real y’all. Although it’s not a good excuse, one of the reasons I don’t eat breakfast is because I wake up early and hit the road as soon as I can.

That’s one thing I love about Bellwether Farms Sheep Milk Yogurt. I can easily eat it on it’s own or make a quick little mixture before I go. Plus, if you’ve been reading for a while you know how much I love giving back. Bellwether Farms is partnering with the Whole Kids Foundation for the month of September and donating $1 for every cup of yogurt sold!

Easy, Healthy On-the-Go Breakfast

Easy, Healthy On-the-Go Breakfast

This is the perfect addition to my routine because it doesn’t require me to do that much. My favorite thing is that I can quickly whip it up and you can customize it however you’d like! I usually grab my yogurt and just add granola and cut strawberries. I keep it simple but when I want to feel more adventurous I add a bit of peanut butter. The thing about this is that you can easily add any fruit you want. Bellwether Farms sheep milk yogurt is thick and creamy so it will hold your ingredients in. On really lazy days I just grab the yogurt and good because it’s good enough to eat on its own! Next I’m going to start experimenting using it in smoothies.

Easy, Healthy On-the-Go Breakfast

Adding this simple breakfast option has been good for me. Since before I couldn’t eat until past noon, I would eat way too many treats and snacks to keep my stomach happy. Plus, the yogurt is all natural, free of antibiotics and growth hormones, so I can eat and not feel guilty of what I’m putting into my body. I know breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day, so I’m happy to actually incorporating it into my routine and taking a health conscious route!

Eat Well, Be Well with S.Pellegrino

Eat Well, Be Well with S.Pellegrino

Eating out can get hard when you’re trying to be healthy. There’s a lot of easy options that aren’t necessarily good for you. It can get really hard when you are just really hungry and going out to eat is one of your only options. Who knew it would be this complicated?

If you’re ever stuck, S.Pellegrino has a taste guide to help you find the best foods around the U.S. The taste guide looks at trending food trends and finds the best and puts them all together for easy picking. Seriously if you’re a foodie, the taste guide is the best hub of all things delicious. Current trends include healthy spots and Asian twists and thankfully I found a good pick that combines both.

Eat Well, Be Well with S.Pellegrino

One of my favorite spots in California (there’s some locations in parts of Arizona), there’s a small restaurant called Waba Grill. It’s a super affordable place and it gives a twist to Asian foods we all know and love. You honestly get two things in one and it’s great.

There are all types of bowls and even some plates you can choose from. They are really specific with their calorie count so you always know what you’re getting. If you’re looking for an Asian infusion, there is plenty to choose from.

With my mineral water in hand, I tend to go for the full-on veggie bowl which contains rice, broccoli, carrots, and cabbage. If I ever want to change it up, I would add some chicken. The veggie bowls are so filling that I always have to pack it up and save for later in the day. You won’t feel guilty eating some of their bowls so it is a favorite when I need something quick and affordable.
